UMD Women’s Hockey Finishes Off Weekend Sweep of Harvard in Top 10 Matchup
Gabbie Hughes scored twice while Elizabeth Giguere and Anna Klein each scored once as the Bulldogs opened 2022 with a top 10 win.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 8 Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team welcomed in 2022 in a big way, getting the 4-3 win over No. 10 Harvard to sweep the weekend series.
UMD’s top line shined once again, as Gabbie Hughes scored twice while Elizabeth Giguere and Anna Klein each scored once. Giguere finished with four points on the day and now has 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in eight career games against Harvard. Hughes finished the weekend with four goals.
“I would credit our first line with showing up huge this weekend. The work ethic behind it I think is what sends that message to the rest of our team. This is what we expect, this is how hard you have to play. To put two back to back on the road like this against a good Harvard team, it’s a good way to start and now we just have to keep elevating,” head coach Maura Crowell said.
UMD improves to 11-7 and will return to WCHA play next weekend at St. Cloud State. Puck drop on Friday is set for 3:01 p.m. and 2:01 p.m. on Saturday.
