Opiate Problems Come to Forefront in Wisconsin

About $5 Million Being Suggested for Opiate Treatment

SUPERIOR, Wis.-The Wisconsin House of Representatives today, worked on passing a bill to expand opiate treatment facilities at a cost of almost $5 million.

The funding could help many different organizations in Superior including the local fire department. They have responded to many opioid overdoses over the years, saving many lives with NARCAN – a drug that reverses an opioid overdose.

“The opioid problem here in Superior is a pretty big problem and anytime we can get more funding from Madison to fight the problem, it’s a good thing,” said Steve Edwards, battalion chief.

The fire department reminds the public, that if you see someone abusing opiates, be sure to call authorities.
