Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 12/12/2025

A Super Cold Weekend

Astronomically speaking, it’s still Autumn. Yikes! The Winter Solstice arrives on December 21st, the shortest day of the year. Then, we are officially in Winter (Astronomically). Well, then this is going to be a terribly cold Fall weekend. We have a Cold Weather Advisory for most of the Northland, for windchills down to -40 this weekend, Far NW Minnesota, and NE North Dakota have an Extreme Cold Warning, this weekend, for windchills down to -45. That’s dangerously cold. Dress in layers, if you have to be outside. Good hat, choppers, longjohns, the whole 9 yards. In the Twin Ports, our highs this weekend will be -3 and +4. Our lows will be -17, -16 and -3. Fortunately, this cold snap is short lived. Our high temp on Monday is projected to be 20, with a high of 35 on Tuesday. That warmth will feel fantastic, and bizarre, after the weekend we are all about to endure.

The airmass this weekend, is far too dry to produce any snow. Although, with Lake Superior being open, and strong NW winds, the U-P of Michigan will likely pick up 7 to 8 inches of snow this weekend. It’s okay. They expect it, and they want it. That’s why they have some of the best downhill skiing in the world there. Hundreds of inches of snow, every year. Amazing.

So, bundle up this weekend. Yeah, the hairs in your nose will most definitely freeze!
