UMD Men’s Hockey Sophomores Zam Plante & Adam Gajan Selected to Play in 2025 Spengler Cup
The U.S. Collegiate Selects team opens up tournament play on Friday, December 26th, against Team Canada in Switzerland.
DULUTH, Minn.- The Spengler cup is the oldest invitational ice hockey tournament in the world and two current UMD Bulldogs have been selected to play in the tournament.
Sophomore forward Zam Plante and Goaltender Adam Gajan were picked for the U.S. Collegiate Selects team that will participate in the Spengler Cup.
This is the first time that NCAA DI men’s hockey players will compete against international competition in the tournament.
Plante and Gajan are two of 25 skaters suiting up for the selects team.
The two Bulldogs are ready for the opportunity to play against national teams.
“I think it’s great for all the players there. You will be playing against professional players and professional teams. So, I think it will be great experience for us and a big challenge and how we can do against those Pro teams,” said Gajan.
“It should be a lot of fun. I think it will be a good hopefully show where college hockey’s at and hopefully perform well over there. I’ve heard it’s a fun tournament. My dad talks about it all the time, he played in 02′ an never stops talking about it, said Plante. “He said that it’s one of the coolest hockey environments. It’s a small town; everyone is there for hockey. He said it’s kind of similar to like a state tournament fell is what he described it as.”
