With Postseason Implications On Their Minds, UMD Football to Close Out Regular Season in Minot
UMD is 12-0 all-time against Minot State.
DULUTH, Minn.- It’s the final week of the regular season for the UMD football team. And the Bulldogs are in a position where many squads strive to be.
UMD, who already has at least a share of the NSIC North division, can win the conference and the division outright depending on other outcomes.
The Bulldogs are also in a good position to clinch a postseason berth and potentially have a home game in the first round.
Head Coach Curt Wiese says none of that matters until they take care of Minot State on Saturday afternoon.
“We’ve addressed with our guys. I think it’s important for our guys to understand what’s at stake this weekend and understand that we’re not in a comfortable position yet. Even though we’re at 9-1 heading into Minot, we’re on top of the conference but that can change real quick if you go there and don’t play well. Our guys understand the significance of this week. Having a chance to win a conference championship, get back in the NCAA playoffs and find out where we end up on Sunday afternoon,” said Wiese.
Saturday presents also a different challenge for UMD as they’ll try to stop Minot State’s triple option offense, something the Bulldog defense is already ready for.
“You know it’s an interesting offense with the triple option. Same thing it’s going to come down to with every other game. It’s just showing up on Monday, showing up Tuesday, Wednesday and then showing up for gameday. Just taking it one day at a time,” said UMD defensive back Alex Sylvester.
UMD is 12-0 all-time against Minot State. They’ll try to make it 13 on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
