UWS honors campus veterans serving the community
SUPERIOR, Wis. — UWS celebrated their Veterans on campus today.
A public event was held to honor those who’ve served.
The ceremony included a presentation of colors, nationals anthem, and presented the Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards.
The awards honored campus veterans working with veterans, campus police, and in hospice care.
“Veterans are a huge part of our society. They’re the reason we have a society like we have. They go and defend us while people stay home and they make it to where we can be safe, where we can be productive as a society. And to ignore that, I think, would be a huge disservice to all of us as a whole.” said Lynn Lowney, Military Connected Students Events Coordinator.
The Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards presented are named for Lieutenant Henry Blomberg, a former student of UWS and World War 1 Veteran who died during the battle of Argonne in 1918.
He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest military honor.
