Duluth Depot Hosts Veterans Day Observance

DULUTH, Minn. – Celebrations and ceremonies took place across the Northland Monday as former and current military members were honored for Veterans Day.

One of them took place at Veterans Memorial Hall at the Duluth Depot.  There the Duluth Women of Today hosted an event to honor those who have served.

The program began with guest speaker Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert, then continued with Taps and a 21- Gun Salute.  This free event also included refreshments and a viewing of the PBS Documentary, “Cold War Secrets of Northern Minnesota.”

“We recognize what they’ve done for us, we recognize the sacrifice they have made away from their families, going overseas and serving and so to us it’s just the least we can do for them on Veterans day is to recognize that,” says Duluth Women of Today member Sharon Bergquist.

The event also recognized Jaedyn Roemhildt, the student recipient of the Mike Colalillo Medal of Honor Scholarship.  “I wrote about my dad actually, cause he served in the army and I actually learned a lot about what he did and what he went through.”
