Duluth’s Priley Fountain Reopens, Damaged Grounds Being Restored After Encampment
DULUTH, Minn. — Priley Circle within the Duluth Civic Center was a much different site Thursday compared to the three-month-old encampment that was cleared out on Wednesday.
City crews have since fenced off the land where the encampment used to be. It’ll stay that way until the damaged grounds can be restored, according to the city.
The historic Priley Foundation was also reopened Thursday. It was shut down after defecation and urination incidents during the encampment.
Mayor Reinert took to social media Thursday with an update during the Civic Center Farmers Market.
“This remains a public space … It’s obviously continues to be, today for events, more announcements, more socializing, and, yes, even for public protest. And that will not change. The grassy area is off limits for a while, while we do some pretty serious restoration. And once it’s reopened, we’ll have the same permit rules that align with what we do inside City Hall building, but come on down this continues to be your space.”
The famers market is at the Civic Center every Thursday afternoon until the middle of September.
