Duluth Man Announces Presidential Campaign

Robert Schieve says women's rights, fighting high taxes for the average person, and too much spending on global war are key issues.

President Biden and former president Donald Trump are getting most of the election attention.
But a Duluth man announced Thursday that he too is entering the presidential race.

Robert Schieve made the announcement outside his West Duluth home. The army veteran and Native American said that after 30 years of fighting for the rights of the Anishinaabe, that it was time to fight for all Americans on a bigger stage.

He said there is too little help and too many taxes for the average person.

“We just got out of a pandemic, a four-year pandemic. People have lost jobs. People have lost their homes. We need to get that back and we need to let the American people live a life they can enjoy,” said Schieve.

“You work forty hours a week, and you’re still not making enough money to cover your bills. That has to change. People can’t survive. American is great because America’s people make it great,” Schieve said.

Schieve said too much money is being spent on wars overseas and that what is happening in Gaza is murder.

He said America needs more mental health clinics, safer schools and housing for everyone.

Schieve says the number one issue is the right of women to have the say and control over their own bodies.

Schieve says he will be running as an independent candidate.

He has twice run for Duluth mayor.
