UWS Baseball Opening UMAC Tournament Against Northwestern

Lost two of three games in previous series against Eagles

SUPERIOR, Wis.- After finishing 20-17 overall in the regular season, the UW-Superior baseball team now have their sights set on the UMAC Tournament.

As the #3 seed, the Yellowjackets will face #2 Northwestern on Thursday to begin the four-team double-elimination tournament. UWS faced Northwestern in a three-game series April 25-27, which ended with the Eagles winning the final two games. Nevertheless, UWS is hoping to carry the momentum of a few key late-season wins into the tournament.

“The team has come really close together at the end of the season.” said pitcher Ben Welle. “We’re playing really good ball right now. Whoever’s got the best momentum is probably going to do the best in the tournament.”

“We’re kind of a young team this year, which is kind of good to see some young talent come on,” noted catcher Isaac Fugere. “It’s been a good group to come together and create a good culture.”

The UMAC Tournament will run Thursday through Saturday. It’s also worth noting that UWS is the only team in this year’s tournament that has never won the tournament in program history.
