Superior Fire Department Celebrates New Hires and Promotions
SUPERIOR, Wis. — The Superior Fire Department hosted a swearing in and awards ceremony Thursday afternoon.
The event was all about welcoming aboard new firefighters, celebrating promotions, and learning about the accomplishments firefighters have done this last year. It is a chance for fire crews to be in the spotlight and for the community to support the work that they do.
“The fire service in general right now you know there’s just a lot of turnover, retirements as well as a lot of other departments hiring firefighters. So, recruiting firefighters is very important for us. We always want to hire the best individuals that we can to our fire department. It’s an extremely important role in our community. We want to hire the best possible people,” said Superior Fire Chief Camron Vollbrecht.
One firefighter is celebrating his first year at the job. He says the crew is a family and helps each other do the best work that they can.
“It’s been a dream job. It’s the best job in the world. You never know where you’re gonna get called to, so every day is a little bit exciting you know. We’re always training, so we’re always having fun just the camaraderie that we have with the guys is probably one of the best parts of the job. The brotherhood, the sisterhood that we have going on,” said Perry Bentley, first-year firefighter.
5 firefighters were sworn in and 7 people were promoted at the event.
