Riders and Walkers Asked to Stay Off Gravel Trails

DULUTH, Minn. — Late Friday afternoon the Duluth Parks and Recreation Division, in collaboration with the Superior Hiking Trail Association and the cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores, recommends that all dirt trails be closed.
The warm weather during the day and overnight below-freezing temperatures have created very wet and vulnerable soil conditions. Walking or riding a bike on the trails can cause a great deal of damage to the trails. Walkers and bikers are being asked to avoid the dirt trails until conditions improve.
Gravel surface trails will remain open throughout the winter regardless of weather conditions.
