Northland father seeks community support for daughter’s unexpected illness

DULUTH, Minn.– A northland family is hoping for community assistance, after their daughter needed unexpected brain surgery.

Her father, Jakell Ross said, the 10-year-old was airlifted to the children’s hospital in St Paul last week for emergency surgery.

Ross said his daughter, Ahlyna Stamps, had been struggling headaches, which turned out to be a sinus infection.

The infection quickly spread to her brain, and he said, it was scary how fast things progressed.

“It was bigger than what I could handle. So, although I’m a father, I, you know, I try to do the best I can in all areas. That was an area that I wasn’t able to help, and that was the worst for me,” said Jakell Ross.

In response to this devastating situation, Ahylna’s teacher has set up a go-fund-me page to help cover expenses such as travel, rent, groceries, and future surgeries.
