Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 8/8/2025

A Steamy Friday Night

There will be no complaining about the heat and humidity we have today, or will have for much of this weekend. Because, in 7 weeks, October will be here, and then you may be wishing for days like this. With high temps in the low to mid 80s today, the dew points were very high. The dew point in Duluth was 73. But Superior was even higher (worse), where the dew point was 75. Uff da! A temp of 83, with a dew point of 75 is literally like a sauna! The dew point is the best measure of actual moisture in the air, because it is not temperature dependent (like the relative humidity). And when dewpoints are in the 70s, it just plain feels oppressive outside!

We had some showers this morning, but in the Twin Ports, we only managed to get .05″ of rain. That leaves us .88″ short of rain for the month of August, and almost 5″ short for the year. We can sure use more rain, and we just might get more, about 3am Saturday morning. There’s a 60% to 70% chance for rain overnight tonight. Some severe weather is possible, but I don’t think we are looking at a big outbreak…not at this point, anyway. But, more rain would sure be nice to get!

After the passage of the cold front from the west tonight, Saturday will start out mostly cloudy, but by lunchtime, it should become quite sunny, reaching a high of about 83 on Saturday. The humidity will begin to drop, and by Sunday, it should be noticeably less humid, with sunshine, and a high of 82. It will also be quite windy on Sunday, with SW winds 10-20 mph. Looking into next week, a huge area of high pressure will dominate all next week. From Monday thru Friday, we are looking at mostly sunny skies each day, with highs near 80, and lows near 60. Boring yes, but consistent, and very nice, summer weather. The only problem I see next week, is the potential for more Canadian smoke coming into the area. Models are suggesting that, and that’s unfortunate. But, otherwise, a pleasant and quiet week coming up.

Have a great weekend!
