UWS Baseball Looks to Continue Winning Ways in UMAC Championship Rematch
UWS is 6-0 in UMAC conference play.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- The UWS baseball team has heated up after their Florida trip.
After going 3-5 in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Yellowjackets opened up conference play and won six straight UMAC matchups.
The Jackets latest opponent was Martin Luther, where UWS earned the series sweep.
The Yellowjackets currently sit in second place in the UMAC as Bethany Lutheran is also perfect in divisional play.
No easy test for the Jackets this weekend as they begin their series with Crown.
For UWS to continue their winning ways in conference play, the Yellowjackets must trust their programs foundation and each other.
“We have to play well and play with confidence. That’s the biggest thing. To walk into the park knowing that we are going to play well and to play with as much confidence as we can,” said UWS head coach TJ Oakes. “Pitching and defense has been kind of our program the last couple years and why we have been successful. We have guys on the mound that can throw strikes, and our defense has been rock solid.”
The Yellowjackets and the Polars know each other well as they met in last year’s UMAC Championship series, where the Polars came out on top.
UWS looks to give it their all against the defending UMAC champs.
“We should have a little edge under our belts this weekend to play them. There should be a little more fight under our belts to play them and get a little revenge if you want to call it,” said UWS pitcher Ben Welle. “I would say this one has been circled a little bit for a while. Everyone gets super excited to play them, it’s always a fun week building up to playing them.”
The Yellowjackets and the Polars open up their series on Saturday, April 5th at Wade Stadium.
First pitch is at 6 p.m.
