Sexual Assault Awareness Month Kicks Off

SUPERIOR, Wis.– The month of April symbolizes Sexual Assault Awareness month. It was recognized today through stories shared by the Superior community.

The press conference at the Government Building gave community members the opportunity to bring their stories to light.

Professors, Mayor Jim Paine and representatives at CASDA shared their outlook as to why it’s important to stay informed.

Being able to keep this topic in conversation, organizers are hoping this gives affected individuals the comfort to seek help.

“That’s what we do every day. We work every day to try and stop these things from happening and make people aware because, like others have said, you don’t even realize you’ve been sexually assaulted. And especially with like men, they don’t want to come forward at all. Women have a hard enough time coming forward. So, it’s just very important every day to continue this fight,” explained Christine Szewick, Sexual Assault Program Coordinator at CASDA

Throughout the month of April, there will be a handful of events to recognize sexual assault awareness month.

At University Wisconsin Superior in Swenson Hall, there will be a clothesline display for the entire month.
