#4 UMD Women’s Hockey Begins Second Half of Season with Series Against Syracuse

The Bulldogs begin their series with Syracuse on Thursday.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD women’s hockey team opens up their second half of the season by hosting Syracuse University on Thursday.

This is the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Syracuse.

The series was supposed to be played earlier in the season, but due to weather complications for Syracuse it had to be rescheduled.

Entering the contest, the Bulldogs are second in the WCHA standings.

For the Bulldogs it is important to keep building on their success from the first half.

“It’s like one more step forward. We are always adding to the puzzle, and we have a really good game plan in place. Our girls are awesome, they get excited, there’s always something new that we are throwing at them. I think every day, again, when you do that, you see good things happen and you see your team continue to take those strides,” said head coach Laura Schuler.

Part of the Bulldog’s success this season is the team’s ability to stay in the moment.

“I think our group does a really good job as just focusing on the now and I think part of that too is a lot of us are in our final year here at UMD. We are just looking for the present, we aren’t looking long term, we want to focus on the job we need to get done and I think that’s why we have been having the success that we have been. Just focusing on that weekend and that team that we are playing against, said fifth year defense Nina Jobst-Smith.
