Photographers Capture the Deep Freeze

DULUTH, Minn.– The severe coldĀ isn’t stopping photographers to emerge from the thick fog on the lake, just to get that perfect shot.

Typically, in the summer, you can find people crowding around the harbor waiting for boats to come in.

The boat enthusiasts aren’t letting the cold stop them.

Some of the dedicated photographers, coming from out of state, and traveling to Duluth to take in the beauty of Lake Superior.

“It’s great. I’m not from here, I’m originally east coast, but I’m living in De Moines right now. So, we’re just up here for a couple days. I see a lot of things people don’t see, you know, the cold doesn’t bother me that much. At the same time, I enjoy seeing the world in different ways,” explained photographer Jim Sheppard.

Before braving the cold to get some pictures there are a few things to keep in mind.

“Batteries drain quicker. Make sure you have gloves and stuff, because you will regret it if you don’t. But yeah, always be aware that you’re actually out in -10, -20-degree weather. It can be bad,” said Sheppard.

When spending time outside in these temperatures, keeping frostbite symptoms in mind is necessary.

Numbness and tingling are often an indicator, that frostbite may be happening.
