Miller Set to Lead Young UMD Women’s Basketball Squad Against Former Team
Current UMD center Johanna Miller played for four years at Augustana.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD women’s basketball team is looking to turn things around this upcoming weekend.
UMD is currently 2-6 to start the season and like the men have dropped their last three contests.
Head Coach Mandy Pearson says yes they’d like to win but she’s not focused on the numbers right now, it’s all about getting better each and every day.
“Offensively we’ve just seen some adjustments that we’ve been making that have helped us been really successful in a lot of possessions. Defensively we have a long ways to go, we’re a young team, we’re giving up a lot of points and that’s not normal for our program. We’ve seen things like small tiny adjustments that we’ve been able to make each game in transition and we’re allowing fewer points on the fast break. Things like that as the season goes on we’re going to keep getting better at,” said Pearson.
Friday’s game against Augustana will be extra special for current UMD center Johanna Miller, who played for the Vikings the last four years.
“Super excited to play Augie this weekend. Definitely still have a couple of friends on the team, still a couple of girls. But, really just most excited to get back in the grind of things with the UMD girls. Keep continuing to get better every single game and that’s what we’ve been trying to do,” said Miller.
The women tip off before the men on Friday at 5:30 PM.
