After Strong Start Was Cooled Off, UMD Men’s Hoops Looks to Get Back on Track
The Bulldogs are currently on a three-game losing skid, which includes two defeats with margins of four points or less.
DULUTH, Minn.- After starting off the season with a 5-0 record, the UMD men’s basketball team has cooled off a little bit.
The Bulldogs are currently on a three-game losing skid, which includes two defeats with margins of four points or less.
The good news is UMD will return home this upcoming weekend to a Romano Gym, where they have five wins.
Head Coach Justin Wieck says he’s not panicking due to the recent slump, citing his belief in his current group and the work they put in on the court.
“We know we have the right guys for us to be successful. We haven’t really put together 40 minutes on the road yet. We’ve played some good teams but we think we’re a good team as well. We’ve had a really intense week of practice, trying to find that next step for us just from a taking care of the basketball, the details on the defensive end and just that overall toughness that we have,” said Wieck.
UMD’s first chance to do that will come Friday and Saturday against Augustana and Wayne State.
“Both of them play extremely hard. We’ve had our struggles with both teams in the past. We just have to come out and play our game. If we defend and make shots that we know we can do, we’ll be perfectly fine. It’s all going to start on how much energy we have coming into this weekend,” added forward Charlie Katona.
The Vikings and Bulldogs tip things off on Friday at 7:30 PM.
