Thursday Evening Northland Forecast: 10/10/2024
Cooler Temps Are on the Way!
It was fun to feel one more day of summertime temps today! Duluth hit 73 degrees, Minneapolis came in at 79, and in west-central Minnesota, Alexandria topped out at 82 degrees! And, that’s going to be about the end of that! A cold front is plowing over the state overnight, and that will take our temps down significantly for Friday, right through the weekend. In Duluth, our highs Friday thru Sunday will be 64, 56 and 50. That’s fine. The average high for today is 56, so that’s more in line with where we should be. That low pressure system and cold front will also bring us a much needed chance for rain late Saturday night into Sunday morning. It won’t be much. Maybe a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch of precip. That’s just fine, I’ll take it! Been kind of dry the last few months.
The huge area of Canadian high pressure will cool us down significantly, heading into next week, as Monday’s expected high temp is only 48. We will see a slight warmup after that, as we will warm into the low 60s by Wednesday and Thursday. The lack of moisture continues to be a concern, as it’s very dry over the whole region, so the fire danger continues to be elevated. A good, long soaking rain over a couple days would be very beneficial. Of course, as we head into mid-October, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s, that could also come as snowfall. Either form of precipitation would be helpful!
Have a great Friday, and dig out a couple of sweaters and a light jacket for the weekend!
