Veterans Honored for Service With Celebrations on Veterans Day
DULTUH, Minn. — With Veterans Day Saturday, the West Duluth American Legion Post #71 had a celebration for military veterans and people currently serving.
The legion recognized the sacrifices of those who have served by honoring them with a gun salute and a ceremonial playing of the song ‘Taps.’
“We are honoring all the military veterans today in honor of Veterans Day, and just a way to say thank you for their contribution to the country and our community,” said Cindy Sanders, Duluth Women of Today Member.
“You know, we’re losing a lot of veterans every year and one thing that really stood out to me today is that there were young kids here today,” said Sanders.
“It’s great this day, veterans should be honored every day,” said Dwight Nelson, Vietnam Veteran.
“I think people need to understand that war is devastating and not just to the individuals that are fighting, it is for their family as well,” said Sanders.
“They should be recognized year round, as I said, for that sacrifice, for the things that they gave up so that we could be free, so that we could be educated,” said Nelson.
