Reusable Bags Now Available for Food Shelf Clients
Part of Bag It Duluth Campaign
DULUTH, Minn.-Clients of Churches United in Ministry will now be able to use reusable bags when picking up their groceries.
The bags were collected recently by the League of Women Voters at a recent Bag It Duluth film screening. The Bag It Duluth campaign, which involves 70 different organizations, has developed a proposal to phase out plastic bags.
“We know some Duluthians don’t have the means to afford reusable bags, so we’re redistributing them if you will…Robin Hood in reverse,” said Jamie Harvey, coordinator of Bag It Duluth.
According to event organizers, 20,000 plastic bags go into Lake Superior every year.
Bag It Duluth will be hosting a screening of the film “Bag” at Peace United Church of Christ at 7 p.m. Thursday, where they will collect more reusable bags.
