Positive Future Ahead for UMD Land Lab

The Lab Was in Jeopardy, But Not Anymore

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD Land Lab and Sustainable Agriculture farm has a bright future ahead of it

The land lab and SAP farm was in jeopardy because of the school’s budget. But after many people showed support for the program, the school has made the decision to keep the 10 acre land lab available to students who want to learn how to farm organically.   Randel Hanson, Director of the UMD Land lab, is glad to see students will have the chance to continue learning about sustainable agriculture in a hands on setting.

“We all know that we have to move towards more sustainable practices, we can’t just talk about them, we actually have to be doing these things, and so the land lab functions as an important classrooms for students to take their ideas and see how they work in practice,” said Hanson.

Students also learn about the importance of bio-diversity issues, water issues, and renewable energy issues surrounding the agriculture industry, at the land lab.
