Annual Veterans Day March in Duluth
Veterans Say the Recognition Means Alot
The streets of Duluth were lined with people waving American Flags, who cheered in honor of the veterans and the sacrifices that they make for our freedoms.
“I hope that they already feel appreciation but seeing everyone coming out really solidifies that for everybody,” said Mandi Vonderhaar, a parade goer.
Veterans from all different branches of the military marched from the depot to the DECC for a program that elementary school children put on each year.
City officials spoke at the program and school children sang to thank the heroes for their service.
“These veterans went and fought not because they wanted to, but because they had to and they fought for our children,” said Karin Swor, a member of the board of directors of the Veterans Service Committee.
Many veterans say the recognition means a lot to them and hope getting the children involved helps the kids learn what the military service means.
“The kids may or may not be learning things but today, they are meeting veterans, they are seeing service members that are in their community, and may have not known it,” said Paul Pedersen, a veteran.
