Application Process Now Closed For Fire, Police Chiefs
31 Candidates Applied, Meet Min. Requirements For Job
The applications are in and the process begins for Duluth Mayor Emily Larson and choosing the city’s next police and fire chiefs.
City officials on Wednesday said 11 candidates applied for the police chief position, with five internal and six external – two of which are from out of state.
As for fire chief, 20 applicants were accepted.
Seven of those are internal, while 13 are external – six of which are from out of state.
Meanwhile, Larson says she is now going through nearly 150 public surveys collected about those positions.
“The comments that we’re getting and the surveys really lead me to believe that people care very much; they are watching this; there are very high expectations.
And that’s everything that you want as a mayor when you are hiring some of these key departments — that’s everything you want,” Larson explained.
A hiring timeline has not been announced yet.
