Lutsen Mountain’s New Gondola Close to Opening
7 Million Dollar Project is Up and Running
The construction for the 7 million dollar Gondola at Lutsen started back in June, and is close to opening.
The Old gondola had served the mountain for 25 years, but the resort had exceeded the capacity of it.
“It’s capacity is 300 skiers an hour this one as we installed it today can carry a thousand people an hour, so more than 3 times the capacity,” said Jim Vick, the Marketing Director at Lutsen Mountain.
And the new gondola has the ability to grow with the resort
“It can go up to 2400, so up to 8 times the capacity of the old gondola,” he said.
Lutsen representatives say the Gondola is an icon for where the resort is headed.
“We’ve been improving a number of things, the high speed chair, and other facilities.”
The gondola carries passengers to Moose Mountain, which is the mountain on the other side of the valley.
On the 18th the Gondola will be open to the public, and the mountain resort is planning a ceremony to celebrate
